Instructors and Senior Instructors hold Master’s degrees in TESOL or the equivalent. Instructors are experienced in teaching English to non-native speakers and work under the guidance of experts who hold Doctoral degrees in the field of Applied Linguistics.
Our Academic Team
Luke Plonsky (Ph.D., Michigan State University) serves as Director of Studies and comes to Campus English Academy with nearly 20 years of experience in the fields of TESOL and Applied Linguistics. Dr. Plonsky’s research expertise falls in three main areas: second language acquisition, language teaching, and research methodology. His work in these and other areas has appeared in over 80 articles, book chapters, and books. Luke is Senior Associate Editor of Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Managing Editor of Foreign Language Annals, Co-Editor of de Gruyter Mouton’s Series on Language Acquisition, and Co-Director of the IRIS Database (iris-database.org). Luke has taught in Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Puerto Rico, the UK, and the US.
Jihye Shin serves as Associate Academic Advisor for Campus English Academy. She holds a Ph.D. in applied linguistics from Northern Arizona University. Jihye’s areas of research include second language literacy development, TESOL, psycholinguistics, language assessment, and research methods. Jihye has over 10 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings. She has worked with primary and secondary school students in Korea, international students in an intensive English program, and university students in the US and China. She consults on second language research, conducts teacher training, and develops curriculum assessment materials. In her free time, Jihye enjoys playing racquetball, running, and crocheting.
Rebecca Thomas graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and has been professionally tutoring for over 6 years. She enjoys helping people and assisting them with learning new skills. She believes the best ways to learn something new are with patience, enthusiasm, and a lot of fun! In her spare time, she loves playing with her three dogs, learning guitar/piano, and traveling.
Charles Omer has a Master of Arts in English for Teachers from Western New England University, a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate from Arizona State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from National University. In addition to teaching English as a Second Language with Campus English Academy on an on-call basis, he is an aspiring poet.
Jessica Camacho-Jeong holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Hunter College in New York. She is an experienced English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher to adults. In addition to her teaching experience, she has experience in Japan as an administrative assistant working with foreign nationals at the Bank of Fukuoka, and is proficient in the Korean language.
Tobe Mise is an Esports coach for top teams and champion-level players for numerous games. Toby is Campus English Academy’s Esports English specialist and is a student in a top 5 nationally (US) Sports Management program as well as a full-time Esport Coach. He has coached top teams like Devious Esports, AVA Esports, Hyperspace Dark, Team Simple, VALORANT team Missfits, and a top 10 HSEL team. He has coached over 100 individuals, many of whom are Radiant/ top 10/top 5 on the ladder. He was a professional player, shot-caller, and coach in the T2/T3 Overwatch Scene, notably on team Nova Fire. He has coached in top-level Fortnite as well, coaching players through FNCS and Dreamhack qualifiers, as well as coaching Champ level players into qualifying for big tournaments. He is a former Apex Legends Predator Player.
